What is the Reformer class?

It is a small size group training performed on a Pilates apparatus that uses spring resistance for full-body workout. The Reformer apparatus can be adjusted to suit your body shape, flexibility, and strength. You can lay down, sit, or even stand on it to utilize the pulley system and strengthen and lengthen your muscles.

Length & Strength

Each exercises on the Reformer employs every muscle from fingertips to toes so the body works as one unit. In Pilates method, we will never isolate and work on certain muscles while neglecting others. This is what causes imbalances. Imbalances is what causes our posture deviations.

If you are in the search for getting a full-body strength, this class is for you. The music will be pumping, the energy will be high and your whole body will be on fire!

Improved Posture

In this class, we will make our spine MOVE! Exercises focusing on spinal flexion, extension, rotation and lateral flexion are part of each class. Increasing our spinal mobility and decompressing our back are fundamental. Spinal mobility along with strengthening our deep core muscles will give you back the lifted confident open posture.

Strong Core

Through slower and more controlled movements you will learn how to re-educate your abdominal muscles and build the core strength which is fundamental in order to exercise safely and not jeopardize hurting your back.  With mindful movements and correct breathing, you will learn how to recruit TrA (transversus abdominis) which is the deepest layer of our abdominal muscles. Together with the diaphragm, pelvic floor and the multifidus, engaging and strengthening those muscles leads to strong core, improved posture and well-supported back.

BREATHE with intention

Breathing is the first act of life and the last. Our very life depends on it”. ~Joseph Pilates

In this class, breathing is our partner in movement. Breathing is also what strengthens our deep core muscles. Learning how to breath correctly, means learning how to recruit the TrA (transversus abdominis) which is the deepest layer of our abdominal muscles. Together with the diaphragm, pelvic floor and the multifidus, engaging and strengthening those muscles leads to improved posture and decreased back pain.

Learning how to breathe with intention will help you control your movements both during exercises and in daily life!

FLEXIBILITY

The reformer is great for people who feel “tight”.  Unlike creating a bulky and stiff set of muscles, we focus on lengthening & strengthening our muscles! Using spring resistance, we go through some active stretches that cannot be achieved without the Reformer apparatus. Working on our flexibility is fundamental in order to become more mobile. On the Reformer, springs and ropes and be adjusted to suit your current range of motion at your joint structures so that you can exercises more effectively and improve your flexibility.
